Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) has been certifying organic farmers since 1972 and is one of the country’s oldest certification programs. MOFGA Certification Services LLC was formed by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association in 2002 in order to provide USDA-accredited organic certification services to Maine farmers and food processors. If you are located outside of Maine, please refer to the USDA NOP website for a list of certification agents that operate in your state or region.
Accredited by the USDA in 2002, MOFGA Certification Services (MCS) certifies crops, wildcrops, livestock, livestock products, as well as processed and handled agricultural products to the USDA National Organic Standards. We do not provide certification services to any other organic standards. However, we are approved to issue export certificates for MOFGA-certified organic products to Taiwan and Japan. And, MOFGA certified organic products can also be exported to Canada. Access to these foreign markets are due to equivalency agreements between countries, and some restrictions do apply. Talk to an MCS staff person for more information.
Please note that the European Union is NOT a market that MOFGA-certified goods can access. If you sell to the EU, you will need certification from an agent that is accredited to issue organic certificates that are recognized there. Check the USDA NOP website for a list of certification agents.
